Squash

Scientific Name: Cucurbita sp.

Category: Vegetables and Herbs

Description:
Squash is a warm-season crop. Plant after all danger of frost has past to avoid freeze damage. Two main types of squash are grown in Kansas. Summer squash are used in their young or immature stage and grow on compact, nonsprawling vines. Winter squash are used in their mature stage and grown on trailing vines. Squash have separate male and female flowers on the same plant.
