Snapdragon

Scientific Name: Antirrhinum majus

Category: Flowers and Foliages

Description:
Snapdragons are grown as annuals in Kansas, but may occasionally overwinter. They are also grown as cut flowers.

Individual florets surround the flower stalk. The bottom buds open first, progressing up the flower stalk. Flower colors include white, cream, yellow, peach, orange, pink, red, burgundy, lavender, purple and bi-colors. The name snapdragon refers to shape of the floret, and how by gently squeezing on the sides of the floret it looks like a dragon face opening and closing its mouth.

Snapdragons prefer cool temperatures. The leaf is a small, simple leaf.
