Cottonwood

Scientific Name: Populus deltoides

Category: Ornamentals

Description:
The cottonwood is a large, woody tree native to Kansas. The leaf is a simple, triangular leaf with a notched margin. Leaves are alternate. The name refers to the cottony filaments attached to the seeds that are bore in catkins. Cottonwoods are dioecious, meaning there are male and female plants. The cottonwood is the state tree of Kansas.
