Perry PRIDE program will sponsor the visit, Gov. Colyer will give remarks

PERRY, Kan. – Gov. Jeff Colyer and Santa will make a stop in Perry, Kansas on Tuesday, Nov. 20 when the U.S. Capitol Christmas tree will be on display for two hours during its journey from the Willamette National Forest in Oregon to the west lawn of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C.
In addition, a Christmas tree destined for the Kansas State Capitol will be on display, along with trees donated through Trees for Troops. Those trees will arrive on wagons pulled by teams of horses. The Kansas Forest Service is coordinating the delivery of that tree and wreath to Cedar Crest, the Kansas governor’s mansion, plus a tree for the State Capitol.
Those trees and wreath are provided by members of the Kansas Christmas Tree Growers Association, who are also providing the donated tress for the Trees for Troops program.
The trees will be at Perry-Lecompton Middle School from noon until 2 p.m. on Nov. 20.
Sponsored by Perry PRIDE, the festivities will include remarks by Gov. Colyer, an appearance by Santa, a visit with Smokey Bear, hot cocoa and cookies, live music and more. The activities are free and open to the public.
Perry PRIDE is part of Kansas PRIDE, an organization dedicated to making communities better places to live. Kansas PRIDE is a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, Kansas Department of Commerce, Kansas Masons and Kansas PRIDE, Inc.
The Willamette National Forest, in partnership with nonprofit partners Choose Outdoors and Travel Oregon, are bringing the U.S. Capitol tree across the country. Perry is one of 25 communities to be visited.
