Kansas Forest Service to host statewide trainings
Community foresters offer day-long events for city foresters, city staff, tree boards and other green industry professionals
October 30, 2019
MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Kansas Forest Service is offering day-long community forestry trainings across the state in November to address tree issues faced by Kansas communities.
KFS officials note that properly caring for trees in the urban environment has become an increasingly difficult task for city foresters, city staff, tree boards and other green industry professionals.
Training topics include the environmental impacts of drought, windstorm events and other environmental factors and the potential problems that may negatively affect community trees. Attendees will learn how tree defects can make a tree hazardous and a candidate for removal.
The agenda includes an indoor discussion of tree assessment, removal, proper pruning and storm damage pruning; and an outdoor pruning demonstration.
Dates and locations include:
Tuesday, Nov. 5 - Emporia
Tuesday, Nov. 5 - Hays
Thursday, Nov. 7 - Marysville
Thursday, Nov. 14 - Olathe
Tuesday, Nov. 19 - Park City
Thursday, Nov. 21 - Parsons Arboretum
Registration is required and currently open at https://communityforestrytraining.eventbrite.com. The registration fee is $5.
