Friends of Vermillion PRIDE Volunteer Honored
Kansas PRIDE program works with local volunteers to make communities better places to live and work

MANHATTAN, Kan. – Audrey Broxterman, a volunteer with the Vermillion PRIDE Program, known as Friends of Vermillion, has been honored for her work in the community.
Broxterman was named a winner of the 2020 PRIDE Rising Star Award, given by the Kansas PRIDE program, a partnership of K-State Research and Extension, the Kansas Department of Commerce, the Kansas Masons and Kansas PRIDE, Inc.
“Community partners, whether they be businesses, organizations or individuals, are an integral part of a vital community and we want to thank them for all they do for their communities,” said Jaime Menon, K-State Research and Extension program coordinator for the Kansas PRIDE program.
Broxterman’s works include contributions through planning, labor and grant writing for Vermillion’s park, historic depot and city buildings, USD #380, a cemetery project, library, the Sesquicentennial in 2019, and publicity.
“Going above and beyond took on new meaning for Vermillion as Audrey power pioneered through unknown waters, often alone, but accomplished so much. She truly is an unstoppable rising star!” said Lynn Shaffer, president of Friends of Vermillion.
Kansas PRIDE is a volunteer-led organization that serves communities across the state by assisting local government and volunteers in making their communities better places to live and work. Through the program, local PRIDE volunteers identify what they want to preserve, create, or improve in their communities and work with K-State Research and Extension agents and specialists and the Kansas Department of Commerce to achieve their goals.
