Trainings and Programs

Our team offers three different training programs: Mental Health First Aid (MHFA), Question, Persuade, and Refer. (QPR) Suicide Prevention and MSU Farm Stress Training. Below is a description of each program offered.

Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an evidence-based course that teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. The training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial help and support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem or experiencing a crisis. For a list of our trained MHFA Instructors see the list below or click here. For more information or to schedule a MHFA training, please contact Rachael Clews, Southwest FCS Specialist, rclews@ksu.edu.

Michigan State University (MSU) Farm Stress Training is for farmers, farm families and professionals who work with farmers to learn about agricultural economic trends, unique stressors to farmers, impacts of stress on the body, how to communicate with a distressed person, warning signs of suicide and how to refer someone to mental health resources. For a list of our trained MSU Instructors click here. For more information or to request a MSU training, contact Rachael Clews, Southwest FCS Specialist, rclews@ksu.edu.

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) is an evidence-based suicide-prevention training designed to educate people from all walks of life on how to recognize the warning signs of suicide. QPR training helps people get comfortable asking the question "Are you thinking about suicide?" and then helping others get appropriate help. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade and refer someone to help.  Sessions are usually limited to 25 participates at a time. For a list of our trained QPR Instructors see the map below or click here. For more information or to schedule a QPR training, please contact Rebecca McFarland, mcfarla@ksu.edu
