SDI in the Great Plains

Welcome to SDI in the Great Plains

In 1989, K-State Research and Extension initiated efforts to develop the techniques for successful application of subsurface drip irrigation (SDI) for crop production in the U. S. Great Plains region. The overall objectives were to conserve water, to protect groundwater quality, and to develop sound methodologies for SDI.

SDI is an emerging, but valid technology in the Great Plains. Changing economic factors and/or resource constraints could rapidly affect its adoption. We believe this forward-looking approach taken by K-State in 1989 is helping to solve problems irrigators are experiencing today and will continue to experience in the future.
